DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them.
- Easter is coming up on April 20. What do you typically do to celebrate Easter, and what are your plans for this year? (Do you plan to attend a Chase Oaks Easter service?)
- At the Last Supper, Jesus introduces the disciples to the Holy Spirit. Read John 14:16-17. What do these verses tell us about the Holy Spirit – where does he come from, what does he do, what are his other names, where is he, etc.?
- Read John 14:26. What role does the Holy Spirit play, and how have you seen this happen in your life?
- Read Acts 2:38. How do we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit?
- Read Galatians 5:22-23. Considering the list of the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control), which of these do you want the Holy Spirit to produce more of in your life right now, and why?
- As you think about the Holy Spirit in you and all that he does, including empowering us to love others like Jesus does, in what area of your life would you like the Holy Spirit to show up?
- What’s one way you can practice being more aware of and connected to the Holy Spirit this week? For ideas, you can look at the “Put it Into Practice” section below.
- How can our group pray for you as you seek to walk more closely with the Holy Spirit?
- Let’s end our time together by praying this prayer as well as praying for one another:
Holy Spirit, I welcome you today.
Fill my mind. Guide my steps.
Help me see what You see.
Be my strength, my peace, my friend.
I trust You. Lead me.
And thank you for walking with me today.
Grow my awareness. I want to know you more.
VERSE TO MEDITATE ON AND MEMORIZE THIS WEEK:
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. (John 14:26)
PUT IT INTO PRACTICE (between meetings)
Consider doing this daily prayer practice this week:
- Morning Prayer
Holy Spirit, I welcome you today.
Fill my mind. Guide my steps.
Help me see what You see.
Be my strength, my peace, my friend.
I trust you. Lead me.
- Pause + Ask (anytime during the day)
Holy Spirit, what are you saying right now?
What do you want me to notice?
(Just 30 seconds of stillness can reset your heart.)
- Evening Reflection
Where did I sense his help today?
Where did I forget to lean on him?
What am I grateful for?
Prayer: Thank you for walking with me today.
Grow my awareness. I want to know you more.
