Start Up
We live in a culture that is increasingly fragmented, opposed to organized religion, and dismissive of the church as irrelevant, unnecessary, or even harmful. While this area is growing quickly in every demographic, race, and ethnicity, the challenge has never been more apparent in how to reach people who don’t know Jesus. Continue the discussion started this weekend about the future God has for Chase Oaks Church and what it looks like to be here for good.
- How did you come to Chase Oaks Church? What keeps you here?
- When it comes to faith and Jesus, what changes are you seeing in our culture in how people see the church? How do these changes make you feel?
Discussion Together
Read
John 4:34-42.
- What does Jesus mean when He says the fields are ripe for harvest? How does He already see God at work in Samaria (the location where this event takes place)?
- The disciples probably didn’t see a ripe field for harvest in Samaria. It probably looked barren to them. Why do you think it was hard for them to see the potential?
- When you look at our current cultural landscape, in what way are you most fearful?
- Jeff talked about how fear leads to a fight or flight mentality. How might fighting or flighting be unproductive?
- Did anything from Jeff’s message challenge you to think differently about how you see our culture today? How or in what way?
- Jeff shared that to reach people no one is reaching, we need to do things no one is doing. What have you noticed or learned about connecting with friends who don’t know Jesus or are disinterested in church?
- Have you been here for any of the previous projects that Jeff described (Imagine, Go Boldly, or Next Door/Next Gen)? How did that experience impact you and your interaction with God or Chase Oaks?
- As you think about what Jeff shared about the Here For Good project, what excites you the most?
Live Big
Take time to pray for what God will do in you and through our church during the Here For Good project. Pray for people who no one is reaching, asking God to help us reach them. Pray for your friends and neighbors. And pray that we would be ambassadors of God’s good hope to our community.
