Discuss Together
- In his message, Jeff talked about a show that has become popular — Ted Lasso. What is the last show or podcast that you really got into and why?
- One of the topics addressed in the book of Titus is the importance of unity. Can you think of a time where you experienced uncommon unity, where people came together in a special way? Was it at work, on a sports team, or someplace else?
- Read Titus 3:9-11. Why do you think unity is such a big deal to God that He talks about kicking divisive people out of the church? Does the tone of this passage surprise you? Why or why not?
- If it is so important, why is unity so difficult? What are some of the biggest challenges to staying unified at church? What about at work or in your family?
- In your experience, does a divisive person believe they are being divisive? What do you think is motivating their actions?
- As you reflect on your life, have you ever been unintentionally divisive, where you were trying to fight for something you believed in but ended up causing harm and disunity in the process? What would you do differently now?
- Read Ephesians 4:3-6. What does it look like to make every effort to keep unity? What are some choices and commitments a person needs to make in order to be a unifier?
- Jeff shared that unity doesn’t mean uniformity. This means we will have different perspectives and tensions will inevitably arise. What have you learned about dealing with conflict and conflict in a healthy way? What does it look like to deal with tension in a way that is authentic but not divisive?
What is one way you can make more effort to fight for unity?
Next Steps
God’s heart is for His church to be a beautiful mosaic — a group of diverse people united by His grace, power, and truth. So, take some time as a group to pray for our church, that we would be unified, loving, and reflect the heart of God to a watching world. Pray that God would convict each of us in areas where we’ve sweated the small stuff. Pray for peace in the middle of a polarized culture. And pray that God would keep your group unified.
