Introduction
What does it mean to have a “for life” lifestyle, including how we think about the unborn as well as the dignity and flourishing of every human life in the world? As we “go there” in today’s discussion, please remember the following ground rules:
- As you discuss, believe the best about one another.
- Participate by seeking to understand, rather than change someone’s mind.
- Look for common ground.
- If things become too heated, call a time-out and take a breather.
- Share and affirm personal experiences.

What stood out to you from Jeff’s message? Was any idea, verse, or thought new or particularly compelling to you? Share with the group.

While the topics of abortion and caring for the unborn can dominate big cultural discussions during elections, it can be much harder to have personal conversations with friends and family about these issues. What makes it so challenging to discuss these topics with those close to us? What are some potentially bad assumptions or unintentionally hurtful statements we need to be careful with or avoid?
-
Read Genesis 1:26-27, Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5, and Ephesians 1:4-5. What observations can we make about how God views human life? Why is all human life, including the unborn, so significant?
-
How can we discuss the issue of abortion without falling into the trap of shaming those who have regrets about having had one or having encouraged someone to have one?
-
Jeff said, “Some people who aren’t Christ-followers wonder why Christians make a big deal about the unborn, but at times seem to care relatively little for other issues that affect the dignity and flourishing of human life. That contradiction should not exist, and when it does it is an unbiblical one.” Have you seen this contradiction? Why do you think many people who aren’t Christ-followers have this impression?

NEXT STEPS
Only God can change human hearts, and in a world where human life is often treated very cheaply, we need to pray for God to turn that around. So, take a moment to pray together as a group. Ask that God would change hearts, open eyes, and empower His people to help human life flourish in every way and everywhere.
