When 90s Kids Have Christmas: Lullabies For Your Not-So-Silent Nights

Ah, the holidays. A magical, peaceful season filled with ample time for families with young children to quietly reflect on the true spirit of Christmas.

… or not.

If you’ve ever held a screaming toddler fresh-awake from a nightmare, or a wailing baby in the throes of colic, you know that the classic Christmas song “Silent Night” is, well, a lie. Nights with a little one are a lot of things: exhausting, beautiful, joyful, terrifying… but “silent” is not an adjective that I’d use to describe them. This is even more true with all of the gatherings and activities that tend to pile up around the holidays.

I see you, overwhelmed parents. Actually, I AM you, and I’ve recorded something special just for us.

When it’s all hitting the fan and you need a little bit of peace in the face of the storm, check out “When 90s Kids Have Christmas.” You’ll find an album of Christmas lullabies by the artist Sleep My Darling (that’s me) to help get you through those nights when everything and everyone is going absolutely bananas.

For some background: I created my musical alter-ego, Sleep My Darling, a few years ago before the birth of my first baby. My goal was to take all my favorite 90s songs and turn them into lullabies. We’re talking songs like “All The Small Things” by Blink 182, “Mmmbop” by Hanson and “All Star” by Smashmouth. (Fellow 90s kids, get ready for a nostalgia overload!)

The official tagline of Sleep My Darling is “lullabies that you’ll enjoy just as much as your little ones.” The unofficial tagline—for those of us who want to pull our hair out from the endless amounts of horrible children’s music out there— is “lullabies that don’t suck.”

So I put out my first album “When 90s Kids Have Kids” and it went viral. It even charted on the Billboard top 100 list (a dream of mine). I was the happiest 90s baby on the planet! After making a couple more albums of 90s music, I knew I had to create a Christmas album to carry all of us exhausted parents through those long December nights.

Making this album was so much fun. I’d have to say my two favorite songs on the album are “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and “Winter Wonderland”.

"All I Want For Christmas Is You" is ICONIC and full of energy, so I knew I would have to put a wildly different spin on it to make it a relaxing lullaby. I came up with a little “da-da-dada” line that gave it that easy listening doo-wop vibe that we can all use to get our babies to sleep.

When I sat down to do the musical arrangement for “Winter Wonderland”, I couldn’t get this little line out of my head: “I hear those sleigh bells in wonderland.” It was the perfect little hook that makes singing it to your little ones extra-special. I remember holding my newborn by the fireplace and bopping him to sleep to this song last Christmas—core memory, unlocked.

So if you’re looking for Christmas lullabies to soothe your kiddos to sleep and calm your frazzled nerves, or if you just want a playlist of chill Christmas tunes floating through your house, give this album a listen (check it out on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, or Amazon Music). It might not make your holiday season silent, but it just might make it a little more peaceful, merry, and bright.
