Discuss Together
- What is the one dish at a Thanksgiving meal that is a game changer for you—something that if it’s there (and done well) it takes the dinner to a whole new level?
- Read together Philippians 4:4-13. Katy shared how this passage hits her differently depending on the season she’s in. What stands out (or possibly bothers you) based on the season of life you’re currently in?
- Why do you think Paul mentions anxiety as he talks about thanksgiving? How are the two related?
- In what ways are you experiencing anxiety right now? Has the pandemic and the last few years changed what you are anxious about?
- Reread Philippians 4:8-9. Katy shared how we are called to steward our attitudes and thoughts—that this is the “how” of gratitude. What have you learned about taking control of your thinking? What has and hasn’t worked?
- What do you find fuels entitlement and discontentment in our culture…and within you?
- What have you learned about growing your gratitude? What is one way you’d like to intentionally choose and express gratefulness?
Next Steps
Katy challenged all of us to memorize Philippians 4:8-9, which talks about stewarding our thoughts. Post these verses somewhere you’ll see them throughout the week—on your bathroom mirror, next to your nightstand, on the refrigerator, or someplace else. It’ll be a great way to remind yourself that Jesus is at work and to be on the lookout for the good things He is doing.
