- Can you remember a time where you were “shushed,” maybe by a teacher, parent, coach, or someone else? Were you the type of kid who had to be shushed a lot?
- Read the story of a blind beggar named Bartimaeus who was used to being shushed in Luke 18:35-43. What do you think Bartimaeus’ life would have been like up to this point?
- Why is it significant that Jesus stopped? What does this tell us about the heart of God?
- Why do you think Jesus asked Bartimaeus, “What do you want me to do for you?”
- Jeff made this observation: “There were hundreds of people on those crowded streets, all curious about Jesus. But only one life was transformed forever.” What keeps people from experiencing the transforming power of Jesus in their lives? What are some specific barriers we face in our culture?
- Imagine Jesus looks at you and asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” How would you answer? Get specific – what are some needs you are facing in your life right now?
- If Jesus wants something for us (which He does), why does it often involve giving up something? Why is it costly? What have you learned in your experience?
- Whether we’ve been a Christian for a long time or are not yet a believer, we all tend to lean towards one of two mindsets: the “I’m good” mindset, or the “I’m not good enough” mindset. Both keep us from Jesus. Which mindset do you tend to have and why?
