Discuss Together
- Think of a company or organization that has a really great culture or “vibe” that resonates with you. What is it about the way they roll that connects with you?
- During this series we will be talking about our core values as a church and why we do what we do. How much clarity do you have on your personal core values? If you have some defined values, share what they are with your group.
- Read this week’s DNA statement together.
Jesus Sets Our Tone: We respond to the issues of the day through the lens of Jesus, who always engaged with grace, truth, and empathy. As we follow Jesus’ lead, we pray for discernment and ask for wisdom as we lead and love people.
- Can you think of a time where someone shared a difficult truth with you but did it in a graceful way with a helpful tone? What about the opposite, when a difficult truth was communicated poorly? How did tone play a role?
- Read John 1:14-18. What does it mean that Jesus came full of grace and truth? Why is the order significant?
- Now read John 8:1-11. Talk about how Jesus navigates the tension between truth and grace. What can we learn from His approach?
- There are so many traps we can fall into as we try to navigate the tension between grace and truth in our culture today. What have you learned about doing this well?
- How do you think someone else would describe your tone? Think about your different relationships as a co-worker, a neighbor, a friend, a spouse or child. Where do you think your tone needs to improve?
