DISCUSSION QUESTIONSChoose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them. This weekend, Jeff shared how Jesus gave us two parting gifts after he ascended into heaven. To kick things off, what is a special gift that you remember receiving? Read Ephesians 4:7-13. As you look through each of these verses, what actions do you see that Jesus has done and is doing? Take turns going around the room, and as you look at the person on your left, what God-given gifts and talents do you see in that person? Read John 13:34-35. Jesus spoke these key words at the Last Supper. What thoughts come to mind as you think about this “new” command? Jeff said that we can love others collectively as a church by creating a welcoming environment that is externally focused and spins the energy of God’s love out to our community in tangible ways. How have you seen us as a church do this, and what are some of the challenges in doing this? Individually, we can love others by serving as brand ambassadors, extending friendship, sacrificing to meet needs, sharing our story, inviting people to church, and sharing the life-changing love of Jesus. Which of these aspects of loving others stands out to you, and why? Inviting people to church and, if we are a Jesus-follower, sharing the story of how we came to follow Jesus are two significant ways we can love others. But each of them can be difficult to do. Have you done either of these? What makes inviting people to church and sharing our story difficult? How did you get connected to Chase Oaks and/or this group? Would a few people be open to sharing with the group your story of how you came to follow Jesus (in 2-4 minutes)? Reread John 13:34-35. Is there someone that God is leading you to love in a new way this week? Share praises and prayer requests, and take turns praying for one another. VERSE TO MEDITATE ON AND MEMORIZE THIS WEEKA new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:34-35) PUT IT INTO PRACTICE (In Between Meetings) Continue to reflect on John 13:34-35 and pray about a person that God is leading you to love this week in a new way. Then make a plan to do it. If you would like guidance on how to share your story, here is a link to a guide that can help. If you would like to take a spiritual gifts survey, here is one from LifeWay that may be helpful. Pray for your group members during the week.
