Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them.

  1. Ice Breaker – Do you have any fun family sayings? Where did the saying originate?
  2. What role do questions and doubts play in our faith journey? Why is it important for believers to be honest with God when they feel confused or upset about life’s struggles?
  3. How do you personally reconcile the existence of a good God with the reality of suffering in the world? What experiences have challenged or strengthened your understanding of God’s goodness in the midst of suffering?
  4. In what ways do you see the effects of sin and rebellion in the world around you today? Can you think of specific examples where the brokenness of the world is evident in your life or community?
  5. How does the concept of free will relate to the existence of evil and suffering? How does our freedom to choose contribute to both the good and bad outcomes we experience?
  6. How can we find hope in the fact that God has not left us alone, even in a broken world?
  7. What comfort do you find in knowing that Jesus came to begin the restoration process, even though suffering still exists?
  8. Read 1 Peter 5:10. What does it mean for you that God is working to restore all things? How does the promise of a fully restored world (free from pain and suffering) change the way you face the difficulties of life?
  9. Read James 1:2-4 and Psalm 34:18. What practical steps can we take to grow our faith and maturity in the midst of trials?
  10. What comfort do you find in knowing that Jesus sympathizes with our pain? How does his own suffering on the cross change the way you approach your own pain and the pain of others?
  11. Read 1 Peter 4:12. What are some practical ways we can offer comfort, support, and understanding to those who are suffering around us?
  12. Invite group members to share prayer requests and take time to thank God for the hope of eternal life.
