Discussion Questions Choose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them. Whether you are a parent, relative, or mentor to a kid, share a funny or surprising piece of parenting advice you’ve encountered. If you tried it, how did it go? With so many resources and information out there, where do you tend to go for guidance in parenting or mentoring kids? Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. When to comes to guidance on parenting, how does the idea that the Bible can be our best anchor and compass challenge or encourage you? Read Proverbs 22:6. What does it look like, practically, to “train a child in the way he should go” in your daily life? April shared the imagery of “training” like a horse with a bit in its mouth. How does this image shape how you think about parenting or influencing kids? Read Matthew 7:13-14. Jesus says the road that leads to life is narrow. In a world that offers so many broad paths, how do we help kids find and stay on the narrow path? April offered three applications. The first was, “Acknowledge that your children aren’t yours.” How does viewing the children in your life as God’s inheritance shift your sense of responsibility? The second was, “Parent on Purpose.” What is your end goal in parenting or mentoring children, especially when it comes to following Jesus? And what is one way you can be more intentional this week in pointing a child towards that end goal? The third was, “Trust God.” With God, we are not alone in raising children. Is there a time when God showed up in your parenting or mentorship journey in an unexpected way? Pray for one another, for specific ways each of us can parent or influence the next generation.
