Discussion QuestionsChoose the questions for your group; no pressure to use all of them. This week’s movie is about the “conspiracy theory” that the moon landing was fake. What do you think about that, and what other conspiracy theories are you curious about? (Try not to get too political with this one.) Epistemology is the study of how we know what we know, and what is truth. In John 18:38, Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” It’s a question that still resonates today. How would you answer the question “What is truth?” Read Hebrews 11:1. Have you ever wrestled with the idea that faith doesn’t require absolute certainty? How does that make you feel—relieved, uncomfortable, curious? Read 1 Corinthians 13:12. When we can’t fully see or prove things, what role do doubts play in our faith journey? Can doubts actually strengthen our belief? Why or why not? Read Ephesians 4:11-15. This passage describes church as the place where we grow together in faith and truth. How has community, including our small group, helped shape what you believe about God? And where has the lack of community made it harder to grow? Read John 14:6, our memory verse for the week (see below). How does our faith change when we think of it not just as believing that something is true, but believing in someone—Jesus? For those who are Jesus followers, what led you to believe in Jesus? Take turns sharing how you became a Christian. If you haven’t fully trusted in Jesus (which is okay), what’s the biggest barrier for you? Doubt, hurt, fear, uncertainty, or something else? What might it look like to take one step of faith anyway? Jeff ended his message with this: “God invites us to form our identity around what he says about us. Not what others say. Not what shame whispers. Not what failures shout. Not even what your inner voice speaks. What God says is that you are forgiven, free, redeemed, chosen, loved, valued.” What are some lies about your identity that need to be redefined with God’s truth? Take some time to share prayer requests and pray for one another. Verse to meditate on and memorize this week: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6 Put It into Practice (Between Meetings) This week’s message highlighted the Nicene Creed. You can read the full text of the Nicene Creed and learn more about it, here.To reflect more on Ephesians 4:11-15 and the idea of “we”, re-read the passage and watch this video from the Life Essentials Study Bible on the principle: to become mature in Christ as local communities of faith, we must all function as members of one another.Spend some quiet time alone with God (anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes or more), reading John 14:6 and Hebrews 11:1 several times, slowly. Then, write down some doubts that you have and share them with God in prayer. Meet up with someone in your group over coffee or a meal to share your doubts with one another and encourage each other.
